Product 02 · Impregnated nonwoven
Oil-impregnated nonwoven cleaning cloth
Nonwoven cleaning cloth loaded with a specified functional liquid at a controlled level. Pre-impregnation removes the variability of manual wetting and gives the cleaning step a repeatable liquid dose at the roll contact point. Produced at our factory in China for direct and OEM supply.
What pre-impregnation changes
With a dry cloth, the amount of liquid at the roll contact point depends on the operator, the bottle, the dwell time and the cloth. That variability is difficult to control and difficult to document. A pre-impregnated cloth moves the liquid dose into the material specification: each roll carries a defined liquid mass per unit area, within a stated tolerance.
The result is a repeatable cleaning interface, provided the liquid itself is suitable for the roll, the electrode and the process temperature. Pre-impregnation does not make an unsuitable liquid suitable.
How the product is defined
Three elements are specified together:
- Substrate. Fibre blend, web structure, basis weight, thickness and edge condition determine how the liquid is held and released.
- Liquid. The grade is identified by its verified function, compatibility with the roll and electrode materials, and its behaviour during storage and use.
- Loading. A target liquid mass per unit area or per unit mass, with a tolerance, plus a distribution requirement across the web.
Terminology and function
An impregnated cloth is not automatically a "cleaning cloth" in the chemical sense, and the liquid is not automatically a cleaning solvent. Product names and descriptions on this site follow the verified function of the liquid. Where a grade is supplied for a different function, it is described accordingly.
Configuration parameters
| Parameter | What to specify | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Substrate | Fibre, structure, basis weight, thickness | Controls liquid retention, release and contact behaviour |
| Liquid grade | Verified function, chemistry family, compatibility | Determines suitability for the roll and electrode |
| Loading | Target mass per area or per mass, tolerance | Sets the dose delivered to the roll |
| Uniformity | Across-web and along-roll distribution requirement | Prevents local over- or under-wetting |
| Format | Roll, perforated roll, sheet, slit width | Matches the cleaning device and handling method |
| Packaging | Sealed wrap, carton, labelling | Limits evaporation, contamination and migration |
| Shelf life | Assigned per product after stability assessment | Defines usable window and storage conditions |
Loading and uniformity are different problems
A cloth can hit its target average loading and still perform poorly if the liquid is concentrated in the centre of the roll or unevenly distributed across the width. Basis weight variation, web density variation, liquid viscosity and the impregnation method all affect distribution.
For critical applications, uniformity is specified and checked by sampling across the web and along the roll. The appropriate sampling plan depends on roll width and the consequence of local variation. This is covered in more detail in nonwoven impregnation.
Handling, storage and shelf life
- Keep rolls sealed until use to limit evaporation and contamination.
- Store within the temperature range stated on the product data sheet, away from direct sunlight.
- Do not stack heavy items on rolls that may compress and redistribute liquid.
- Record the lot and opening date so that shelf life can be controlled.
- Do not use material beyond its assigned shelf life without a documented assessment.

Compatibility and residue
Before production use, confirm that the liquid does not attack the roll surface, leave a film that affects adhesion or downstream coating, or react with electrode components. Residue evaluation should include the roll surface and the electrode immediately downstream of the cleaning point. Methods are outlined in evaluating residue after roll cleaning.
Do not assume zero transfer
Any liquid-loaded cloth can leave a film under some conditions. Transfer depends on loading, contact pressure, roll temperature and volatility. Claiming zero residue or zero contamination without application-specific test data is not acceptable, and we do not make that claim.
Quality checks
Production checks typically include substrate identity and basis weight, liquid identity, loaded mass, distribution sampling, visual condition, dimensions and packing integrity. Where required, extractables or residue-related tests are added to the specification. Records are retained by lot.
Frequently asked questions
What does "oil-impregnated" mean on this product page?
It means a nonwoven substrate has been loaded with a specified functional liquid at an agreed level. The liquid is identified by its verified function and compatibility. It should not be assumed to be a cleaning solvent, lubricant or generic cleaning agent.
How is the oil loading controlled?
Loading is defined as a target mass of liquid per unit area or per unit mass of substrate, with a tolerance. It is checked gravimetrically during production and supported by distribution checks across the web where uniformity is critical.
Can you impregnate our existing nonwoven?
In some cases yes, subject to a compatibility review of the substrate with the liquid and the impregnation process. Send the substrate specification and liquid data sheet, and we will confirm whether a trial is appropriate.
What is the shelf life?
Shelf life depends on the liquid, substrate, loading level and packaging. It is assigned per product after stability assessment and stated on the product data sheet. Storage temperature, sealing and exposure to light or moisture all affect usable life.
Will the liquid transfer to the electrode?
Transfer risk depends on the liquid, loading, contact pressure and roll condition. It must be evaluated on the line and by residue testing. We do not claim zero transfer or zero residue without application-specific test data.
