A cleaning consumable engineered around the calender
General-purpose wipes are selected by size and price. Electrode roll cleaning demands more: the wipe must contact a precision surface without scratching it, carry the right amount of liquid, and release contaminants without leaving fibre or residue behind.
We specify the material as a system: substrate, web structure, basis weight, thickness, tensile behaviour, liquid loading and edge quality. Each variable is agreed in writing before production, and every lot is checked against that specification.
- Surface-safe constructionFibre type, bonding method and edge finish selected for the roll surface and contact pressure.
- Controlled liquid pickupLoading and uniformity defined as a specification value, not left to saturation.
- Traceable supplyLot identification connected to material records and inspection results.

Application
Cleaning materials for electrode calender rolls
The cleaning step follows the calender, where the electrode coating has been densified. The wipe removes carry-over contamination while the roll is accessible or running. The right material depends on where the contamination sits and how the wipe is presented to the roll.
-
01
Identify the contamination
Classify whether the residue is particulate, coating carry-over, oil film or transfer from upstream equipment. The contaminant determines fibre and liquid selection.
-
02
Define the wipe format
Choose roll, perforated roll or sheet, then set width, length and core to match the cleaning device and operator handling.
-
03
Qualify on the line
Run a controlled trial at production temperature and contact pressure. Inspect the roll surface, the wipe and the electrode downstream.
-
04
Release with a specification
Freeze substrate, weight, dimensions, impregnation and packaging. Inspect each lot against that baseline.
Manufacturing & quality
Evidence behind the material, not a catalogue claim
Nonwoven cleaning materials are only as consistent as the process that makes them. Our workflow covers fibre selection, web forming, bonding, slitting, impregnation, conversion and packing, with inspection gates at incoming, in-process and final stages.
- Incoming material controlSubstrate and liquid grades checked against purchased specification.
- In-process monitoringWeight, width, impregnation and visual condition checked during conversion.
- Finished-product recordsLot identification, inspection results and packing details retained for traceability.

Specification
The six variables that decide performance
A roller cleaning cloth is not defined by the word "nonwoven". These are the parameters we confirm before a quotation becomes a specification.
| Parameter | Why it matters | What to specify |
|---|---|---|
| Substrate fibre | Controls temperature resistance, chemical compatibility, lint and strength. | Fibre type and blend, confirmed against roll temperature and cleaning liquid. |
| Basis weight | Balances absorbency, tensile strength and conformability at the contact point. | Target gsm with tolerance, plus the reason for the target. |
| Web structure | Affects pore size, liquid retention and particulate capture. | Spunlace, needlepunch or other structure, with bonding method. |
| Dimensions | Determines fit to the cleaning device and operator handling. | Width, roll length, core diameter, perforation pitch. |
| Impregnation | Sets how much functional liquid reaches the roll and how evenly. | Liquid grade, target loading, uniformity requirement. |
| Cleanliness | Fibre release and contamination affect downstream electrode quality. | Lint, extractables and visual acceptance criteria where relevant. |

What engineers ask before a first order
Are you a manufacturer or a trading company?
Norvex is a manufacturer and converter of nonwoven cleaning materials. Web forming, bonding, slitting, impregnation and roll conversion are carried out in our own production workflow. Capabilities and facility evidence are provided during supplier qualification.
Can roller cleaning cloth be supplied in custom widths and roll lengths?
Yes. Width, roll length, core diameter, perforation pattern and packing format are specified per order. Custom dimensions are confirmed against slitting capability and handling requirements before quotation.
What information do you need to recommend a cleaning material?
We need the roll surface material and finish, roll temperature at the cleaning point, the contamination you are removing, the electrode chemistry, the available space for a wipe, and your current cleaning method. A material recommendation is confirmed after a sample evaluation.
Do you provide samples for evaluation?
Sample evaluation is available for qualified production and engineering applications. Samples are supplied with the relevant configuration and handling information so that the trial reflects production conditions.
Is the functional impregnation oil a cleaning solvent?
No assumption should be made. Each liquid grade is specified by its verified function, chemistry and intended interaction with the nonwoven substrate. We confirm these details in writing before a product name or technical description is published or quoted.
Start with a process description
Tell us what the roll is doing, not just what size you need
Roll material, surface finish, temperature, contamination type and the available cleaning window determine the material. A short technical description is enough to start.
- Roll surface and finish
- Temperature at the cleaning point
- Contaminant and current cleaning method
- Equipment format and available space
- Required quantity and trial timing
